In 2004 the Secretary of the Interior first awarded the BAT (Best Available Technology) standards to the Polaris Frontier 4-stroke. This standard is used today for allowing snowmobiles to use Yellowstone National Park.

The Frontier Touring is powered by the Polaris Liberty four-cycle engine, a snowmobile-specific design that reduces hydrocarbons by 98% and carbon monoxide by 64%, while delivering up to 20-25 mpg at trail speeds.
